The Wharf DC

Lifestyle, North America, Scenic Views, Vacation Ideas, Washington DC

The dedication of the Wharf DC on Thursday, October 12th at 11:00 a.m. occurred on a cloudy chilly fall day which included periods of drizzle. But the weather did not damper the enthusiasm of the day.

Washington DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser

After speeches from various city officials including Mayor Muriel Bowser as well as the developers associated with the Wharf DC project, the fireworks began. I had an amazing elevated viewpoint from the Cantina. The cloudy skies enhanced the beauty of the fireworks.

Wharf Fireworks

After the fireworks, our next activity was to view the Wharf from the Potomac River via the Potomac Water Taxi. Free round trip Wharf tours from Transit Pier were being offered on Thursday. We were able to get tickets for the first trip at 12:20 pm. As we slowly pulled out of the pier, I noticed to my left the Washington Monument. The views of Washington from the Potomac River were magical.

Water Taxi

As we moved further away from the Wharf the water taxi began to speed up, the Captain instructed all aboard to either sit down or to hold onto the rail. We decided to hold onto the rail. Being on the top level of the water taxi with the wind blowing and the scenic views was absolutely amazing!

The Anthem

In the coming months, more shops and restaurants will be opening at the Wharf. With luxury hotels, shops, restaurants and the musical venue Anthem, I have no doubt that the waterfront Wharf will become a top Washington tourist attraction.
