Located in the Venice Canal Historic District section in Venice, California are man-made wetland canals, built in 1905 to recreate the appearance of Venice, Italy by developer Abbot Kinney. Sailing the waters in the harbor of Marina del Rey is magical. The harbor is filled with boats, water buses and beautiful yachts. Along the docks we saw sea lions but before we saw them we heard the “barking” sounds of sea lions. It was a perfect way to spend a Saturday!
The beach for us at Scenic Runway, like many people, is a place to unwind and relax. Located a few miles away from LAX is Manhattan Beach within the South Bay region of Los Angeles County.
Spending time in Manhattan Beach gave us exactly what we were looking for!
California holds a special place for all of us here at Scenic Runway. In the coming weeks we will share beautiful photos here on our website and amazing videos on our Youtube Channel of our weeks long California Adventure!
The soccer match between DC United and FC Bayern Munich was held at Audi Field in Washington, DC. The Bayern Munich fans in their red jerseys outnumbered the DC United fans.
Bayern Munich Bus
The festivities outside Audi Field reminded me of a mini Oktoberfest. Bayern Munich fans waited in long lines on a very hot day in Washington DC for a chance to view and take a picture with the Bundesliga Trophy. Bayern Munich defeated DC United 6-2.
The island of Martha’s Vineyard is located approximately seven miles off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Discovered in 1602, there are six towns in Martha’s Vineyard – Aquinnah, Chilmark, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven and West Tisbury. One of the many things that make Martha’s Vineyard special is its lack of chain stores, restaurants or hotels which provides the opportunity for a unique experience.
Vineyard Haven Harbor
My journey to Martha’s Vineyard was by way of a ferry from the village of Woods Hole in Cape Cod to Vineyard Haven which is the main port of entry to Martha’s Vineyard year round. The Vineyard Haven harbor is breathtaking with its clear turquoise water filled with sailboats. I honestly felt as if I were on a remote island far away instead of just seven miles off the coast of Cape Cod.
Vineyard Haven, Martha’s Vineyard
While the other passengers on the ferry waited in line to disembark, I lingered behind to take as many pictures as I could of the scenic harbor of Vineyard Haven. After leaving the ferry, I decided to walk around the town of Vineyard Haven, Main Street is filled with quaint shops and a ice cream parlor. Martha’s Vineyard has a diverse history of villages, farms, beaches and forests so there is likely something for everyone to enjoy!
Martha’s Vineyard attracts many visitors in the summer but there are also residents that live on the island year round. It is not uncommon to see a celebrity or politician out and about in this beautiful and friendly island. I found Martha’s Vineyard to be very low key. During my visit to Vineyard Haven a long time resident informed me that the movie “JAWS” was filmed in Martha’s Vineyard.
The beauty of Martha’s Vineyard is absolutely amazing!
