While in downtown Washington, DC today, I noticed a film crew. I asked someone in the crew “what was going on” he told me they were making a “commercial”. That was not true, they were filming Amazon Video’s Jack Ryan starring John Krasinski. You never know what you will see on Pennsylvania Avenue!
Having always lived in large cities in the Southwest and Northeast, I had little to no reference of what to expect while planning my visit to North Carolina. While traveling through North Carolina, I discovered a state filled with history, friendly people, delicious food and scenic beauty. To my surprise I fell in love with the artsy town of Asheville located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, 2132 feet above sea level. The attraction of Asheville for me was the creative laid back atmosphere with the breathtaking beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains as its backdrop.
The Biltmore Estate built in 1895 by George W. Vanderbilt is the largest privately owned house in the United States. The family owned 250-room French Renaissance manor is located in Asheville, North Carolina with daily tours in designated areas of the manor. The biggest surprise for me during the tour was the basement which included an indoor pool, bowling alley and a fitness room among other things. I could not believe a home built in 1895 had those amenities at that time.

Ten U.S. Presidents have stayed at the Grove Park Inn, including President Obama. The views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the terrace literally took my breath away!
