While on vacation, I try to make it a point to take a walk in the early morning hours!

Beignets

4 January, 2016 (07:46) | Cuisine, Lifestyle, North America

One tradition within New Orleans is the Café Du Monde, established in 1862 within the French Market. The Café Du Monde is best known for its coffee and beignets (French doughnuts covered in powdered sugar)!

Below are pictures of my attempt to re-create beignets at home!

Julia Child’s Kitchen

28 December, 2015 (03:09) | North America, Vacation Ideas, Washington DC

Located within the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, is the actual kitchen of Julia Child from her Cambridge, Massachusetts home. The 38-inch high countertops were designed by Julia Child’s husband Paul to accommodate her height of 6 feet 2 inches. The kitchen which was personally donated to the Smithsonian by Julia Child was used in several of her cooking television shows. What a fascinating look into the life of The French Chef, Julia Child.

Woolworth Walk

7 December, 2015 (07:48) | Art, North America, Shopping on Travel

Many of us remember shopping at a Woolworth’s store before the chain went out of business in July 1997 in the United States. I have shopped at a Woolworth’s store in Germany after its closure in the United States. Located in Asheville , North Carolina the local Woolworth store has been turned into an art gallery for local artists called the Woolworth Walk. The Old Fashioned Soda Fountain built to resemble the original Woolworth Luncheonette is located within the building. During our visit to downtown Asheville we could not resist stopping by to have lunch and to check out the artwork!

The Langham, London

Langham, London

Langham, London

As a travel writer, I have had the opportunity to be a guest at some amazing hotels but my stay at the 5-star Langham, London was truly special. What sets The Langham, London apart is its attention to detail. Upon our arrival at Heathrow Airport we were greeted by our driver from the Langham who immediately assisted us with our bags. Our awaiting vehicle was a Mercedes-Benz Van with wi-fi which allowed us to check our e-mail after a long red eye flight from New York. Waiting for us at the hotel entrance was a member of the staff who welcomed us to The Langham, London and escorted us to the check in desk. After we completed the check in process we were escorted to our room. The beautifully decorated and spacious family room contained refreshments and fresh roses to welcome us.

Ballroom

Ballroom

Known for being the first “Grand Hotel” in Europe, The Langham, London opened its doors in 1865 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015. I can only image the long list of dignitaries and celebrities that have visited The Langham during its 150th year history. The Langham, London Palm Court is credited as the place where the tradition of the afternoon tea began. I will share photos of our afternoon tea at The Langham, London Palm Court within next week’s feature.

I have visited London on several occasions prior to this visit but this was the first visit to London for my sons. The Langham offers spacious “family rooms” which sets them apart from other hotels in London. Any parent will tell you how amazing it is to see your child experience a new adventure for the first time, at any age.

The Langham, London is located on Regent Street near Bond Street which is an absolute dream location for shopping and restaurants. Within minutes of leaving the hotel each morning I was in shopping heaven. I can honestly say my family and I contributed to the economy of London during our stay. While I consider shopping a sport my son found the exercise room useful in his daily routine of working out. The Langham also has an indoor pool, spa and outdoor sitting area.

The Victorian style Langham with a touch of Asian influences has been able to combine old and new in a luxurious way which is reflected in its decor and service. These styles are evident within the hotel’s ballroom, conference rooms, restaurants as well as guest rooms.

I love coming to Europe and greatly wanted my sons to enjoy their first visit to London. We had an amazing time in London and the Langham, London made an absolutely wonderful vacation/holiday even more memorable for my sons. From the moment we arrived I knew our stay would be magical!

Antler Hill Village and Winery (Biltmore)

26 October, 2015 (05:50) | Cuisine, North America, Scenic Views, Vacation Ideas

Located on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina is the Antler Hill Village. After we toured the Biltmore Estate we headed over to Antler Hill Village for lunch at the Bistro. The charming atmosphere in the Bistro reminded me of lunches I’ve had in Paris. Within the village is the Biltmore Winery, The Vanderbilts at Home and Abroad Exhibition, a farm and the outdoor adventure center.

Below are a few pictures taken during our visit!
