Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas

The Bahamas consist of 700 tropical islands spread out over 100,000 square miles of ocean starting 50 miles off the coast of Florida. It is suggested that the water is so clear that it has a visibility of over 200 feet. The ocean water surrounding the islands of the Bahamas has a variety of hues. The coolest time of the year is from September through May, when the temperature averages 70-75 degrees. And during the rest of the year, there’s high humidity, with the temperature ranging from 80-90 degrees.

Ending 325 years of British rule, on July 10, 1973, the Bahamas became a free and sovereign country. The Bahamas celebrate what is known as Bahamian Independence Day on July 10th. Nassau is the capital city and largest city in the Bahamas. The resort of Atlantis, Paradise Island is world famous for its accommodations, restaurants, casino, water sports, the Dig (marine life exhibits) and luxury boutiques.

Shopping within the Bahamas you will find distinctive Bahamian items that reflect the heritage and creativity of the Bahamas. Nassau features stylish boutiques and the Straw Market. The Grand Bahama has large shopping areas filled with retail shops, straw vendors, hair braiders and artisans. The Bahamian dollar is held on par with the U.S. dollar and both are accepted interchangeably throughout the islands.
